ABOUT ZÊZERE SWIMRUN
The heart of Portugal is one of the regions with the greatest historical and natural heritage and the least explored in Portugal. Since 2017 we have fallen in love with the magical corners of the Castelo de Bode Dam and its unique characteristics for the practice of this sport. That is why we always look forward to returning to the magic of this place.
This time, our journey will begin at the Cristo Rei Viewpoint in the northernmost point of the Abrantes municipality and we will follow the undulating contours of GRZ (Grande Rota do Zêzere) on challenging trails, surrounding the areas of the village of Fontes and do Souto with its incredible breathtaking views over the Castelo de Bode Dam. The finish line will be as in previous years at the Fluvial Beach of Aldeia do Mato.
The mild temperatures in this spring period are perfect for swimming with water temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees and about 23 degrees in the air. When exposed to the sun, temperatures can become quite hot, so on this demanding route, participants will have to think about their effort management along the route. The dam's fresh water provides less buoyancy, adding an added safety factor as it is a dam.
This year we have yet another reason for interest that fills us with pride. The ZÊZERE SWIMRUN race will also be a stage for Spain's HEAD SWIMRUN SERIES so we except a larger athletes participation from our neighboring country.
