ABOUT AZORES ISLANDS SWIMRUN
The Azores Islands Swimrun returns again in the 2023 Swimrun Portugal Series, recovering the good memories of our last swimrun venue in 7 Cidades back in October 2022 on S. Miguel island.
The S. Miguel island has, in its official network, a total of 80 footpaths with a total length of more than 800 km. Taking advantage of the mild climate that exists throughout the year, it is undoubtedly a unique destination for the practice of sports in nature at any time of the year.
This year the race will take place in the Northwest of São Miguel Island, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, in one of the attractions well known for its natural beauties - the magnificent Blue Lagoon of the 7 Cities. Occupying an area of approximately 4.3 kilometers and a depth of about 33 meters, Lagoa das Sete Cidades is the largest freshwater lake in the Azores.
Named one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal and classified as a Protected Landscape by the Natura 2000 Network, the 7 Cidades are a unique place in the world to practice swimrun. This stunning lagoon has some legends associated with the fact that they are two lagoons of different colors next to each other - Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde which is the Blue-Eyed Princess legend.
The remaining course has several forays on stunning trails that surround the 7 Cidades volcanic cone, with the including the Blue and Green Lagoon of the 7 Cidades, Lagoa Rasa, Lagoa Santiago, Cumeeira Pequena, Pico de Mafra and the 7 Cidades Tunnel.
